The field of artificial intelligence (AI) research is currently grappling with several significant challenges that impact its effectiveness and reliability in real-world applications. These challenges include dealing with noisy and incomplete data from various sources, handling missing data, ensuring explainable and fair predictions, and addressing the transfer of biases from training data to future predictions. To truly understand and overcome these obstacles, it is crucial to study them in real-world scenarios where their full extent can be observed and analyzed.

One such ideal domain for testing and developing AI solutions is cancer healthcare. This field presents a complex prediction problem, incorporates diverse data sources and modalities, and offers a wide range of relevant prediction targets. A common scenario in this context involves predicting future events based on historical data.

The NEXTMAP project aims to address these challenges and advance AI adoption in healthcare, particularly in cancer care.
